I got a job teaching creative writing in Newcastle in north east England, and from there drifted into training: writing and devising training programmes for charities and other organisations, working with vulnerable adults and older children.
This type of work was – and is – something I enjoy. I have deeply held socialist beliefs and understand it is the duty of us all to help those worse off than ourselves.
At 31, I discovered Spain – my ultimate salvation! I went to complete my qualification as a trainer. I planned to stay for three months, but remained for almost a year. I went back to England, and managed two. I got back to Spain and immediately felt I was home. I have had a profound love of the country ever since.
